Known as “the quiet Beatle”, GEORGE HARRISON was an English musician, singer, songwriter and film producer who achieved international fame as the Beatles’ lead guitarist. Through his fascination with Indian culture, he helped broaden the scope of popular music through his incorporation of Indian instrumentation and Hindu-aligned spirituality.

Most of the Beatles songs were written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. However, Beatles albums from 1965 onwards contained at least two Harrison compositions, including the beautiful "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", "Here Comes the Sun" and "Something".

After the Beatles disbanded in 1970, George Harrison released the critically acclaimed album “All Things Must Pass”, and produced his most successful hit single, "My Sweet Lord”.  He also organised the 1971 Concert for Bangladesh with Indian musician Ravi Shankar, and in 1988 co-founded the platinum-selling supergroup the Traveling Wilburys, collaborating on songs and music with Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr and Tom Petty.

George Harrison has been ranked by Rolling Stone magazine as #11 in their list of “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time”, and is a two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee. Tragically, he died  from lung cancer in 2001, aged just 58.

Artist Barry Novis painted George Harrison several times, the original of the one featured here having sold at auction in London for Jimmy Page's charity, Action for Brazil's Children.

This page also features an image of Barry signing one of his enlarged Signature Edition prints of that same painting.
